“Edi ikaw na yung matalino!”
“Ang dami mong alam”
“Edi ikaw na yung magaling sa grammar!”
“Ikaw na top 1”
This phenomenon is called 'Smart-shaming' or 'Anti-intellectualism'.
Ano nga ba ito? Smart-shaming is the act of shaming other people for the sole reason of being smart, or in some cases downgrading themselves or someone else for being dumb. This phenomenon is slowly spreading and will continue to spread unless stopped.
Bakit ba natin to ginagawa? Why do we Smart-shame people?
Why do we say “Ikaw na yung madaming alam!” when someone shares an idea or a thought that is deep and discussable?
Bakit natin sinasabing “English-english pa”/“Edi ikaw na yung magaling sa English” when someone speaks or writes in the English language? English is taught to us on all levels of education– from elementary to college– so why do we hinder other people on using it? Why do we downgrade ourselves or put that person to shame when they speak it? Post too long. Click here to view the full text.
